The company said price changes would not affect business or enterprise customers.

Canada鈥檚 move to shut down TikTok鈥檚 offices pertains to its owner ByteDance鈥檚 connection to Beijing and concerns over data security. The startup鈥檚 custom AI training chip will be built through Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) foundries. While waiting for its own hardware plans to solidify, it will use AMD鈥檚 AI hardware alongside existing Nvidia servers.

Our take: Amazon鈥檚 and the US government鈥檚 support for Intel鈥檚 foundry business could make it an attractive option for domestic AI hardware production, especially as geopolitical tension between China and Taiwan threatens supply chains.

If Beijing follows that path it would represent a major escalation of its unreliable entities tool, which has previously been used against American defense contractors over arms sales to Taiwan. Why now? The move comes at a time when China is under growing scrutiny of its labor practices.

Taiwan is still the cradle of chip innovation: TSMC committed to its home country even as it broke ground in America, maintaining Taiwan鈥檚 dominance in chip production at a time of heightened geopolitical conflict.
